There are a great number of cafés, restaurant­s, bars and snackbars catering for every taste in Amsterdam, but you would be missing out if you didn’t explore the fairs and markets where you can choose from a wide variety of traditiona­l Dutch foods and internatio­nal cuisine. In the centre of the city the Albert Cuyp market is open every day of the week from 9am to 5pm. You can buy clothes here as well as food, and also furniture, souvenirs, plates, dishes and antiques. In the junk shops around the market you can find real treasures hidden in the piles of cheap tat. In between all these shops are small cafés, snack bars and street-food vendors, and vans exuding the smells of pastry, fruit, fish, chicken, chocolate – anything you could wish for.
