Frankfurt Carnival, Germany

Many German cities are famous for their carnivals but Frankfurt’s is one of the oldest and most exuberant. The residents’ carnival spirit was so strong that back in the 16th century the parties, singing and dancing were banned. The tradition had been revived by the 19th century and today everyone is welcome to join in.
