Songkran, Thailand

On the Thai New Year, called Songkran, people throw water over each other. Pouring water is considered to be a sacred rite that washes away sin. Competitive water throwers collect buckets, water guns and hoses and take to the streets. During Songkran it is advisable to leave your camera and telephone at home, or cover them well, as you are certain to get doused in water if you venture out.
