King’s Day, the Netherlands
For more than 60 years one of the major holidays in the Netherlands has been Queen’s Day, celebrated at the end of April, on the anniversary of the accession of Queen Beatrix to the throne. On this day in 2013, Beatrix abdicated in favour of her older son, Willem-alexander, and since 2014 the Netherlands has had a new holiday – King’s Day. Join the orange procession that takes place in every city and village of the Netherlands and taste cakes filled with orange cream that are only baked on this day.
