During these times of unknown WCBS has been remarkable in its commitment to donors and patients. We and our partners (Grifols, CERUS, Fresenius Kabi and Hologic) are proud to be associated with WCBS and its remarkable service to blood transfusion.

Starting with Nucleic Acid Testing through Grifols, then Pathogen Inactivation through CERUS, we have expanded our product representation with Fresenius Kabi blood transfusion products in the region. Expanding our portfolio allows us to supply a full donor to patient solution for blood transfusion services in Africa.

Due to worldwide travel, pathogens which until recently were unknown in certain regions are now of great concern in blood transfusion and for patients receiving blood products.

Many of the diseases that these pathogens can cause are not commonly diagnosed in the newly-affected countries and as a result detection is difficult. Pathogen inactivation, a proactive approach, addresses a broad spectrum of pathogens, reduces the need for new testing, and maintains blood continuity and availability even during a pandemic.

As one of the greatest medical advances, blood transfusion in the future will become even more of a personalised and precision medicine as new cellular therapeutics and risk reduction methods are implemented.
