Author Bae will speak about writing

Award-winning author of “Nowhere to Be Found,” Bae Su-ah, will speak at the Seoul Book and Culture Club at the Seoul Global Cultural Center, June 10.

At the event, presented by Barry Welsh of the book club, Bae will also be interviewe­d in English and Korean, meet guests and sign books.

Considered one of the most gifted and celebrated Korean fiction writers working today, Bae made her literary debut in 1993 with the short story “Highway with Green Apples.”

She has gone on to become one of the most highly acclaimed contempora­ry Korean authors and winner of the Hankook Ilbo and Tongseo literary prizes.

Bae has written five novels and more than 10 short story collection­s in addition to translatin­g the works of German writers, including Franz Kafka and Jenny Erpenbreck.

The Seoul Book and Culture Club, a gathering of bibliophil­es that takes place in Seoul at least once a month, has hosted regular meetings since August 2011.

Event host Welsh, organizer of the Seoul Film Society, was also a columnist for the Hankook Ilbo, a sister paper of The Korea Times.

The admission fee is 10,000 won and the talk begins at 4 p.m.

The venue is the Haechi Hall in the Seoul Global Cultural Center located on the 5th floor of M Plaza in Myeong-dong.
