24 Koreans receive British scholarships
The British government has awarded 24 Koreans scholarships to help them study in the U.K.
The British Embassy invited winners of the Chevening Scholarships and alumni to a pre-departure reception at the ambassador’s residence in Seoul on July 19.
“Your experience in the U.K. will give you new perspectives in your fields of expertise, which I hope will benefit Korean society and U.K.-Korea relations,” British Ambassador Charles Hay said.
“Many Chevening alumni develop a lifelong affection for the U.K. and I hope that all the new scholars here tonight have the same experience. But it is not all about the time you will spend in the U.K.”
A key benefit of being selected as a Chevening scholar is transitioning to a Chevening alumni, Hay said.
“Once you return, you will become a part of the alumni network,” he said. “Here in Korea, we are very fortunate to have an active alumni association — ‘Chevening Alumni Korea’ — which is led by Chairman Chang Yoo-teak, who was newly elected this year.”
Chevening Scholarships are the U.K. government’s global scholarship program offered to more than 60 countries. Established in 1983, the program supports study at U.K. universities — mostly one-year master’s degrees — in a wide range of fields, including politics, business, the media, civil society and academia.
More than 46,000 people, including 1,100 Koreans, have been chosen as Chevening scholars.
