Young artists from ASEAN countries are in Seoul to show off their work at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) from July 25 to Aug. 20.

The ASEAN Art Exhibition, organized by the ASEAN-Korea Centre, features 60 artworks, ranging from oil paintings to installation art, by 30 young artists from the 10 ASEAN member states. It is being held with the 2017 Asian Students Young Artists Art Festival (ASYAAF 2017).

“Marking the ASEAN-ROK Cultural Exchange Year and the 50th anniversary of ASEAN, the ASEAN-Korea Centre is organizing this exhibition for the first time, with an aim to introduce remarkable artworks by young ASEAN artists and promote the exchange among ASEAN and Korean artists,” ASEAN-Korea Centre Secretary General Kim Young-sun said at the opening ceremony on July 25.

“I hope this exhibition will not only be a stepping stone for promising ASEAN artists, but also a good chance for the Korean public to see their potential and purchase quality artworks.”

Cambodian Ambassador and chairman of the ASEAN Committee in Seoul Long Dimanche and diplomats from other nations’ embassies attended the ceremony.

One artist from each country was invited to Seoul to promote their works through the “Conversation with Artists” and view other artworks from Asian countries participating in the ASYAAF.

The organization said the artists will meet Korean artists and experi- ence the country’s arts and culture. They also took part in the ASEAN-Korea Art Forum on July 25 and discussed local art trends, measures to support young artists and areas for future cooperation between ASEAN and Korea.
