Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled hails S. Arabia for Vision 2030

GCC interior ministers meet in Riyadh

Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah congratula­ted Saudi Arabia Wednesday on the Kingdom’s “Vision 2030”, a package of reforms designed to curb the country’s dependence on oil exports.

This came in a statement made by Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled to KUNA during the 17th consultati­ve meeting of Gulf Cooperatio­n Council (GCC) interior ministers, chaired by Saudi Crown Prince, First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Prince Mohammad bin Naif bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.

“The people of Saudi Arabia are capable of bringing that vision to fruition for further developmen­t and prosperity,” Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled said.

Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled also congratula­ted the Kingdom on the success of the “North Thunder” exercises, which he called “a testament to the rigid alliance between Saudi Arabia and its Islamic and Arab neighbors.” “I affirm our unwavering support of Saudi Arabia as it staves off regional threats as peace in the Kingdom is peace for all of us,” he noted.

Moreover, Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled said that the ongoing meeting of GCC interior ministers has yielded new mechanisms of informatio­n exchange amongst GCC security apparatuse­s.

Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled also revealed that a planned civil joint exercise dubbed, “Security of the Arab Gulf 1” will take place by year’s end, a move aimed at bolstering GCC defense capabiliti­es.

Terrorism has become a global threat, and “our fight with terrorism is a long and arduous one,” Kuwait’s Interior Minister noted.

Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled also thanked the Saudi leadership for their hospitalit­y and for hosting the meeting.

The Saudi Cabinet on Monday announced the country’s “Vision 2030”, a series of economic and social programs formed to help lessen the Kingdom’s reliance on oil exports.

Meanwhile, Saudi Crown Prince said on Wednesday it is imperative for the GCC member states to beef up and bolster security cooperatio­n due to regional chaos.

He made the statement during the 17th consultati­ve meeting of the GCC Interior Ministers, including Kuwait.
