‘Apply quota system on expat communities’

KUWAIT CITY, June 5: Upon instructions from the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior Lieutenant-General Suleiman Al-Fahd and supervision of Acting Assistant Undersecretary for General Security Affairs Major-General Ibrahim Al-Tarrah with 30 senior officers, and personnel from the Public Security Department launched intensive campaigns in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, Al-Hassawi and Khaitan and arrested 30 people, including prostitutes, fun-seekers and pimps from 9 vice dens and referred them to the authorities, reports Al-Anba daily.

A security source said the brothels looked like prisons with thick iron doors which were well protected 24/7.

The source added the brothels created a romantic atmosphere with special lighting effects, sex posters and special beds for pleasure.

All those arrested have been referred to the concerned authorities for necessary action.

‘Apply quota system’:

The General Secretariat for Planning has formally requested the government to apply the quota system on expatriate communities and determine the number of each community to protect the demographic structure of the country, reports Al-Shahed daily.

According to sources, the Secretariat

has confirmed a significant increase in the numbers of some nationalities, a matter which requires a review of the recruitment process based on the need of Kuwait’s labor market.

In a letter to the Council of Ministers, the Secretariat has called for activating the small and medium funds to raise the proportion of national employment in the private sector.

The Secretariat has also requested the Interior Ministry to address the travel ban on those whose residence permits have expired to speed up deportation measures through the amendment of legislations related to expatriate labor.

This is in addition to a request to cancel Council the sponsorship system and replace it by the establishment of a company comprising board of directors from the relevant government agencies to recruit and follow-up employment.

In this case, the daily said, the company will be solely responsible for the

‘Maids company soon’: Director of the Residence Affairs Department at the Ministry of Interior, Major-General Talal Ma’arafi said the establishment of a special company to hire domestic workers is almost complete and is expected to go into operation within six months, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Ma’arafi affirmed the project will help eliminate the monopoly exercised by domestic labor offices and create a healthy competition that will help control the cost of hiring domestic workers.

Meanwhile, in other news Ma’arafi strongly denied the ministry intends to grant amnesty to violators of residence law. He disclosed, the recent security checks have seen a considerable number of residence law violators amending their status and paying fines. He said the violators have either to legalize their status or leave the country.

The case of Syrian residence law violators living in Kuwait will be looked from a different angle, but they will not be exempted from paying fines, said Ma’arafi.

He disclosed a new ‘medical treatment visa’ will be issued for people older than 50 after paying a ‘reasonable health insurance’ fee, in a bid to control the number of elderly people who come to receive medical treatment at public hospitals.

Iranian assaults wife:

The Salwa police have arrested and detained an Iranian for assaulting his compatriot wife, reports Al-Rai daily.

A security source said the arrest came after the wife filed a complaint with the Police Station accusing her husband of beating her just because she left the house without informing him and submitted a medical report to substantiate her claim.
