Report on activating youth’s role in SMEs being reviewed
Cabinet okays, refers to Amir number of draft decrees
KUWAIT CITY, June 6, (KUNA): The Cabinet held its customary weekly meeting at Seif Palace on Monday under chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
Following the meeting, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah said His Highness the Premier congratulated His Highness the Amir and Kuwaiti people on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.
At the onset of the meeting, the Cabinet reviewed a letter sent to His Highness the Amir by Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi on the latest regional situation and efforts to fight terrorism and to maintain regional security and stability.
The Cabinet was apprised of a letter addressed to His Highness the Amir by UK Prime Minister David Cameron on deep and permanent relations between both friendly countries and shared commitment toward regional security and stability, as well Kuwait-hosted Yemeni peace talks.
It was then informed of another message sent to His Highness the Amir from Tajik President Imam Ali Rahman, who voiced satisfaction with the good results of his recent visit to Kuwait and invited His Highness the Amir to visit Tajikistan.
It was notified by a message sent to His Highness the Amir from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, inviting His Highness the Amir to attend the annual ceremony of signing 2016 treaties due in New York in September.
A letter sent to His Highness the Amir by South Korean President Park Geun-hye on the fruitful outcomes of His Highness the Premier’s recent visit to South Korea was also reviewed by the ministers during their weekly meeting today.
Afterwards, First Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah kept the Cabinet posted on the favorable results of the recent GCC consultative meeting in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, during which the GCC leaders had agreed to set up a high-level economic body, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Mideast peace process, anti-terrorism efforts.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled also notified the ministers on the outcomes of the recent visit by UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond on bilateral relations, how to promote and develop them and ways of addressing the current regional challenges and the latest regional and international developments.
The Cabinet then reviewed a report on medium-term financial and economic reforms in light of a presentation by Deputy Premier, Minister of Finance and Acting Minister of Oil Anas Al-Saleh on a relevant executive plan.
In this context, the Cabinet asked the minister to report to it about economic and financial reforms during its meeting next week.
The Cabinet reviewed a report on activating the role of youth in the field of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah offered the meeting a brief account of the relevant efforts being exerted in cooperation with the Kuwait’s National Fund for Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SMEs).
Sheikh Salman tackled the strategic orientations for bolstering youth participation in entrepreneurship, in addition to recommendations seeking to provide a more-attractive business environment in Kuwait.
Then, Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Dr Bader Al-Essa briefed the meeting on the results of the Thanwya Amma (Secondary School) exams.
He also reviewed the ongoing arrangements by the Kuwait University, the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training, the Ministry of Higher Education, the Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Universities, for taking in students in the affiliate colleges and institutes in the new academic year.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet approved and referred to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah a host of draft decrees.
These included one amending Decree 156/2022 licensing the Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST). The amendments aim to add new specializations and offering the Master degree in general business administration.
Other decrees approved a MoU on standardization cooperation with Iraq; a MoU for technical cooperation with Mexico; a cultural and artistic cooperation agreement with Qatar; an industrial cooperation agreement with Qatar; a MoU on agricultural cooperation with Nicaragua; a MoU for investment cooperation with Mexico; an air services agreement with Georgia.
Similarly, the ministers approved and referred to His Highness the Amir a draft bill amending a number of provisions of the Decree Law 38 of 1980 on Commercial Code of Civil Procedure, Decree Law No. 20 of 1981 on the establishment of the tribunal for consideration by the college administrative disputes and Decree Law No. 46 of 1989 concerning the actions of little value.
The bill will later find its way to the National Assembly.
The Cabinet reviewed the 2015 report of the Government Performance Follow-up.
It then entrusted the body with coordinating with the concerned authorities to follow up the implementation of the recommendations comprised on the report.
The ministers appreciated the sincere efforts lavished in preparing the report.
Concluding today’s meeting, the Cabinet reviewed the National Assembly agenda and the political developments on the Arab and international scenes.
