Klasmeyts – NLB top qualifying round

D’Islanders eliminate defending champs World Class

KUWAIT CITY, June 6: As the eliminatio­n round of the on-going 2016 FTBKBahrai­n Exchange Company Tenpin Bowling Team Tournament Season 8 drew to a close, the lane masters of Klasmeyts-NLB Corporatio­n emerged on top of final team standings after turning back the DMDA Bowleros in their scheduled 11th round match. Meanwhile, D’ Islanders played the role of spoiler as they eliminated World Class thus ending the defending champion’s hope of a back to back titles. Advancing to the next round to vie for the title in the single round robin championsh­ip series in order of their qualifying round standing are KlasmeytsN­LB, DMDA Bowleros, Siete Pares 1, Cozmo Salmiya, Napesco, Rock N Bowl, K2E2 Thunders and D’ Islanders.

Back to the final week results of the qualifying round, penultimat­e week co-leaders Klasmeyts-NLB Corporatio­n and DMDA Bowleros squared off on lanes 3 and 4 to determine who will emerge as top the qualifier. In the opening game of the match the two teams showed off their tenacity as they bowled toe to toe in a close and exciting game which Klasmeyts-NLB won via a 782750 count. On the next game with Chit Mariano, Alfred Avila, Al Belarmino and Sonny Mariano manning the lanes, the DMDA architectu­ral designers wrest the lead by grabbing a 788-736 victory and even widen the gap after taking a 786-702 decision in game three. With the 3-game tally standing at 2324-2220 in favor of DMDA, Klasmeyts-NLB bannered by Bong Bermillo, Nelson De Leon, Emma Gatus, Bernabe Alfaro Rick Marimla and Rudy Zablan clobbered their rivals in the final game of the match 830-663 for a final winning tally of 3075-2987 to end their eliminatio­n round stint on top of the standings.

Going to the most crucial match of the final week between defending champions World Class and D’ Islanders who before the match were in 8th and 10th place respective­ly, the result of the match could well determine who will advance and who will bow out. World Class with Bill Stiles, Jason Baker and Glenn Corbit at the helm managed to snatch the low scoring first game via a 740-700 count. On the next game, D’ Islanders cast a shadow of doubt on the hopes of World Class for a back to back title as they grabbed an impressive 868-705 game two victory. Headed by Bobby Carambas, Rolly David, Marilyne Mariano, Danny Doctor and Edgar Pascua, D’ Islanders eliminated World Class by decisively taking the remaining two games of the match 823-746 and 821-789 enroute to a 3237-2980 total pin falls victory.

Meanwhile, the other crucial match between Siete Pares 1 and Siete Pares 2 turned anti-climactic even before the match rolled off as the latter showed up one bowler short of the 4-man team line up for each game. Despite the drawback, Siete Pares 2 with Edwin De Mesa, JR Angeles and Mario Santos manning the posts managed to eke out 699-655 win that in the end failed to help their cause as Siete Pares 1 went on to win the match 3021-2736 after winning the next three games 837-676, 776-679 and 728-682 courtesy of of Manny Nazaire, Egay Cabildo, Rico Galang, Faie Reyel, Rita VIdana, Nitz Alinea and Jazel Pangilinan. In the remaining matches of week 11, the K2E2 Thunders led by Edwin Latoja, Newell Sioxch and Lee Mills silenced Cozmo Salmiya 3166-3078, Rock N Bowl bannered by Norie Sairat, Rod Llait and Romy Fermil grounded Napesco 3063-2987 and Power Station with Nadine Dias, Siddharth Nair and Anastasius Menezes stopped the Philippine Embassy Strikers 3080-2961.

For the Individual and Team High scores the award winners are follows: Individual High Game Men Class O/A-Ronnel Valencia 288, Men Class B-Newell Sioxch 244, Ladies- Elvie Sotio 233; High Average Men Class O/A- Ronnel Valencia 200, Men Class B-Romy Daus 177, LadiesElvi­e Sotio 179; Team High Game-Cozmo 854, Team High Series-World Class 3319.
