Oman sink Kuwait Warriors for title
KEHA organizes 1st One Day friendly GCC tournament
KUWAIT CITY, June 6: Kuwait Expats Hockey Association (KEHA) had organized its first ever grand tournament on May 27, 2016, which was a grand success. With two international teams from Oman and one from Bahrain, this was the first of its kind tournament organized in Kuwait by KEHA Oman ‘A’ were the winner clinching the title by defeating Kuwait Warriors by a margin of 3-1, whereas Oman B secured the third spot. With the tremendous efforts from KEHA President Sunil Almeida and General Secretary Lloyd Fernandes along with KEHA supporter Mahmood Alam, the tournament was carried throughout the day with top notch quality of hockey at display.
The tournament featured two Omani sides — Oman A and Oman B followed with Bahrain’s GCC United. 3 Local teams representing the Kuwait colors with pride. The tournament displayed some outstanding class of hockey as Oman A and Kuwait Warriors displayed splendid talent throughout the tournament. In the Semifinal stage, the line up were Kuwait Warriors facing Kuwait Wanderers and similarly both the A and B sides of Oman clashed too. Kuwait Warriors went guns blazing against the Kuwait Wanderers side by winning with a margin of 5-1. The same story implied with the Oman A side, as they ran comfortable winners with the same score line as the latter.
The 3rd place was contested between Oman B and Kuwait Wanderers, were the latter won comfortably displaying their experience. The Finals were hotly contested which the best sides of the tournament meeting each other to decide the title. With high temperament to the game, both sides displayed eye catching performances. Oman A bragged the lead with a swift counter attack which was soon equalizer by Sherwin D’Souza. Oman A clinched the title in the dying moment of the game by getting a penalty stroke which was eventually converted resulting in heart break for the Kuwaiti Side.
The event was lighted up with the presence of Shaikh Khaled Al Sabah as the Chief Guest followed by other honorable Guest such as Meshal Al Dhaferi and Abduallah Shaddad. KEHA was also pleased to have Ahmed Syed (Oman Team President) and Mustafa Ghulam Ali (Oman Team Vice-President) present for the tournament. The Man of the tournament was Adil Al Balushi from Oman A for outstanding performances throughout the tournament.
