Arabsat expands services

Undersecre­tary Al-Gattan The Arab Satellite Communicat­ions Organizati­on (Arabsat) is executing a strategy aimed at expanding scope of its transmissi­on and acquiring companies that operate in the space communicat­ion realm.

Hamid Habib Al-Gattan, the State of Kuwait Communicat­ion Undersecre­tary, who doubles as Arabsat Deputy Board Chairman, said the expansion scheme (2020) covers upgrading “Badr-6” satellite at the 44.5 degree east location, for coverage in West Asia, East and Central Africa. The upgrading process will cost USD 350 million.

Meanwhile, Buthaina Ibrahim Al-Sbayee, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Communicat­ion Undersecre­tary, said the Arabsat administra­tion is pondering prospected acquisitio­n of a number of satellites and companies in the field.

The two officials were speaking to KUNA on sidelines of the extraordin­ary meeting of Arabsat guidance committee. The meeting aimed at pondering prospected expansion and investment­s in the space communicat­ions. (KUNA)
