Arabsat expands services
Undersecretary Al-Gattan The Arab Satellite Communications Organization (Arabsat) is executing a strategy aimed at expanding scope of its transmission and acquiring companies that operate in the space communication realm.
Hamid Habib Al-Gattan, the State of Kuwait Communication Undersecretary, who doubles as Arabsat Deputy Board Chairman, said the expansion scheme (2020) covers upgrading “Badr-6” satellite at the 44.5 degree east location, for coverage in West Asia, East and Central Africa. The upgrading process will cost USD 350 million.
Meanwhile, Buthaina Ibrahim Al-Sbayee, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Communication Undersecretary, said the Arabsat administration is pondering prospected acquisition of a number of satellites and companies in the field.
The two officials were speaking to KUNA on sidelines of the extraordinary meeting of Arabsat guidance committee. The meeting aimed at pondering prospected expansion and investments in the space communications. (KUNA)
