Kuwait tackles climate change at APA meeting
Pakistani parliamentarians laud role
ISLAMABAD, July 27, (KUNA): The Kuwaiti delegation discussed measures to control climate change in a meeting with Chairman Senate of Pakistan Raza Rabbani, on Wesnesday.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of a two-day Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) meeting of standing committee on Economic and Sustainable Development Affairs in Pakistan’s federal capital Islamabad.
In an interview with KUNA after the meeting, the Kuwaiti delegation head MP Hmoud Mohammad Al-Hamdan told that matters of mutual interest were discussed during the meeting.
“We thanked the Senate of Pakistan for hosting the meeting and appreciated their efforts for regional cooperation in Asia,” said Al-Hamdan.
The MP further said we discussed the issue of climate change and environmental issues that have a negative impact on the population.
The Chairman Senate extended his greetings to the Amir of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad AlJaber Al-Sabah. He extended an invitation to the Speaker of the State of Kuwait, Marzouq Ali al-Ghanim to visit Pakistan.
Al-Hamdan said that “Pakistan is an important Muslim country that has close ties to the Gulf states and we want to have benefits from its experiences in number of fields including technology and nuclear science.” Kuwaiti MP Dr Khalil Abdullah Apple, who is also a member of Kuwait delegation, told KUNA that Kuwait is an active member of APA and attends all its meetings. During the current session of the Standing Committee meeting, many countries have come up with number of ideas to increase cooperation among the Asian states.
Dr Khalil Abdullah stressed that APA should develop a mechanism to bind its member states to ensure the implementation of the proposals approved by APA.
He expressed his hopes that APA would follow a procedure to implement the resolutions passed by the association to increase its significance.
Meanwhile, Pakistani parliamentarians lauded the role of the state of Kuwait in Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) during its two-day meeting of standing committee on Economic and Sustainable Kuwaiti MP Hamoud Mohammad Al-Hamdan in talks with the Pakistani parliamentary delegation.

In an interview with KUNA, Pakistani Senator and former head of APA Mushahid Hussain Syed said, “We warmly welcome the participation of Kuwait in APA. Kuwait is the oldest democracy in the Gulf region and it is an active member of the association and attended all the meeting so far including 2013 meeting in Islamabad and 2014 meeting in Lahore.” He said that policies of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah are very progressive and support the vision of APA to increase the cooperation among the Asian states.
Syed lauded the participation of Kuwait in APA by saying, “Kuwait is an active participant of the APA and it has always been vocal on political issues
and humanitarian issues of the region. We consider the participation of Kuwait vital for the association to reshape the future of Asia from Kuwait to Korea.” Another Pakistani Senator, Sherry Rehman told KUNA that support of Kuwait for APA to increase cooperation within the Asian region is significant. The vibrant democracy, the state of Kuwait, is an active and substantial member of the APA. This meeting particularly focuses on economic and sustainable development affairs and Kuwait being an oil producer is a vital part of our vision forward, she added.
