PARIS, Aug 23, (Agencies): Nice signed Brazilian central defender Dante from vfl Wolfsburg for an undisclosed fee on Tuesday.

“I have a great deal of respect for Lucien Favre,” said the 32-yearold Dante who also worked with the Nice coach when the pair were at Borussia Moenchengladbach.

“He helped me a lot during my time in Moenchengladbach.”

Dante made 23 Bundesliga appearances last season at Wolfsburg after joining in August from Bayern Munich.

He played in Bayern’s treblewinning season in 2013. Aston Villa have signed defender Ritchie De Laet from Premier League champions Leicester City on a three-year contract.

“I’m pleased to have brought Ritchie to the club,” manager Roberto Di Matteo told second-tier Villa’s website (www.avfc.co.uk) on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old Belgian full back, who made 129 appearances for Leicester after leaving Manchester United in 2012, moved to Middlesbrough on loan in January and helped them finish second in the Championship.

A Premier League player is set to be punished by English football authorities for discriminatory comments he made on social media more than four years ago.

The Football Association said Tuesday that Burnley striker Andre Gray has been charged with misconduct for comments that “were abusive and/or insulting and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute.”

The comments were made between Jan 9 and March 11, 2012 and appeared anti-gay. They came to light on Saturday, when they were re-tweeted by other people after he scored his first Premier League goal for Burnley. Gray released a public apology that day.

A fractured hand, from falling down the stairs at home, means Mexico striker Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez will miss Bayer Leverkusen’s opening game of the new season, his club announced Tuesday.

“’Chicharito’ suffered a fractured right hand falling down the stairs in his flat last night,” said Leverkusen in a statement.

“Hernandez was successfully operated on this morning.”

Injury means both Hernandez and Leverkusen captain Lars

Bender have been ruled out of Saturday’s German league match at Borussia Moenchengladbach, the club’s first of the season.

The pair are expected to be sidelined for the next fortnight. Barcelona say that Neymar won’t rejoin the team until after he plays in Brazil’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

That means that Neymar will miss Sunday’s Spanish league match at Athletic Bilbao.

Brazil plays Ecuador in Quito on Sept 1 and five days later it hosts Colombia in Manaus.

On Saturday, Neymar scored the decisive penalty in a shootout to help Brazil beat Germany for its first Olympic gold medal in men’s football.

Algerian Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and the Arab League Abdelkader Messahel said Sunday his country and neighbouring Niger share identical views regarding the fights against terrorism and illegal immigration.

“These issues that have been the subject of broad exchange of views and, as usual, our views are totally consistent,” Algeria Press Service (APS) quoted Messahel as saying.

He made the comments at a press conference following his meeting with Niger’s Minister of State, Minister of Interior, Public Security, Decentralization and Customary and religious Affairs,

Mohamed Bazoum.
