Qatar’s Father Amir dies at 84

DOHA, Oct 23, (KUNA): Qatar Father Amir Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad AlThani passed away Sunday at the age of 84, the Amiri Diwan announced.

The diwan, in a statement cited by the official QNA news agency, announced the death of Sheikh Khalifa, and prayed to Allah the Al-

mighty to bestow His blessing upon his soul.

The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani announced a three-day mourning.

KUWAIT CITY:

Official Spokespers­on of the Public Authority for Manpower and Director of Public Relations Department Aseel Al-Mazeed revealed that the labor department­s continue to issue work permits for various companies as per the prevailing conditions.

Reacting to rumors that the authority has stopped issuing work permits due to the upcoming parliament­ary elections, Al-Mazeed pointed out the issuance of work permits is in accordance with ministeria­l decision number 747 which authorizes the labor department­s to issue work permits.

She clarified that according to the aforementi­oned decision, the issuance of work permits continues and there is no reason to stop it as long as there is no directive from the concerned authoritie­s to do so.

DOHA:

A worker has died in a “work-related fatality” at the site of a 2022 World Cup stadium in Qatar, the country’s World Cup organizing body said late on Saturday.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning at the Al Wakrah Stadium and is being investigat­ed, Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy said in a statement. Al Wakrah was designed by the late British architect Zaha Hadid. (RTRS) ADEN:

The pro-government Arab coalition Sunday stepped up air strikes on Iran-backed rebels in Yemen and clashes raged on the ground as warring parties ignored a UN call to renew a fragile ceasefire.

The 72-hour ceasefire took effect just before midnight (2100 GMT) Wednesday to allow aid deliveries in Yemen, whose war has killed thousands of people and left millions homeless and hungry. It officially ended at midnight Saturday.
