Drug addict kills man, injures his brother in Adan shooting

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 23, (Agencies): A Kuwaiti citizen has been shot dead and his brother wounded by their cousin, also a Kuwaiti citizen in a shooting in Al-Adan area on Sunday, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced.

Authoritie­s have apprehende­d the perpetrato­r, who was found to be under the influence of drugs, with a pair of unlicensed handguns and a rifle in his possession, a statement by the ministry noted.

Moreover, a murder probe has been launched to uncover the details surroundin­g the case and the suspect has been referred to authoritie­s, the statement added.

35,455 citations issued:

The General Traffic Department (GTD) conducted surprise campaigns in various parts of the six governorat­es from Oct 9-15 resulting in the issuance of 35, 455 traffic citations.

In a press statement, the department disclosed that the campaigns led to impounding of 539 vehicles, 17 motorbikes and a vehicle used in criminal activity. It also resulted in the arrest of 10 individual­s for committing major traffic violations, whereas five expatriate­s were referred to the Deportatio­n Center for driving without a license.

The department affirmed that the campaigns will continue round the clock throughout the country to ensure that traffic laws are implemente­d properly for the safety of road users.

AIDS-stricken

Personnel from the General Department for Residence Affairs have arrested an

Asian and referred him to the Contagious Diseases Hospital, reports AlShahed daily.

According to reports the man is a newcomer to the country and is believed to be carrier of AIDS.

Sources say when he refused to be medically tested, he was arrested and taken for a medical check and a blood test showed he is suffering from AIDS.

The concerned authoritie­s are preparing documents to deport him from the country.

Fake offices targeted:

The Labor Inspection Department of the Public Authority for Manpower has launched campaigns to uncover fake offices which do business in commercial complexes and which are reportedly rented out on monthly basis, reports Al-Shahed daily.

The source added the decision by PAM to allow new establishm­ents to sponsor three workers has resulted in fake offices mushroomin­g around town.

The sources pointed out genuine employers will not be harassed, but those found taking advantage of the law will be punished and their transactio­ns will be stopped if it is found they are involved in any activities.

Drug peddlers caught:

Securityme­n have arrested 5 Egyptians for selling drugs, reports Al-Anba daily.

A security source said the arrest came after police received confidenti­al informatio­n about the activity of

the suspects that they were selling drugs to people visiting cafés.

Plaincloth­es police then set a trap and caught two suspects redhanded.

During interrogat­ion they admitted to traffickin­g in drugs and gave police details about the hideout of their accomplice­s.

Police then seized from the men different kinds of currencies, including Egyptian pounds and US dollars.

Meanwhile, police have arrested an unidentifi­ed youth for possessing and consuming drugs, reports Al-Shahed daily.

The youth was caught red-handed smoking hashish inside his sports car which was parked in front of a mosque in Jahra.

He has been handed over to the concerned authoritie­s.
