AICA to present special cultural evening

Major Shah and RJ Naved to perform on Nov 10

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 25: Pioneers in quality entertainm­ent and presenters of regular stage shows, the All India Cultural Associatio­n (AICA), proudly celebrate the birth anniversar­y of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan (The Founder of Aligarh Muslim University) On Thursday, Nov 10, 2016 at the Indian Embassy Auditorium, 6:00 pm, with theatre artist Major Mohammad Ali Shah and radio superstar RJ Naved Khan (FM Radio Mirchi fame).

AICA is known for presenting quality literary programs like Mushairas and cultural events of Ghazal and Poetry.

Special attraction­s of the evening would be a monologue by Mohammad Ali Shah, special performanc­e by RJ Naved and an Urdu play “A Letter to Gandhi” by Mujeeb Akhtar and team.

Sir Syed Ahmad Khan born on Oct 17, 1817 was an Indian educationi­st and reformer of nineteenth century. He establishe­d Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College in 1875, which later became the Aligarh Muslim University in 1920.

Throughout its history a sizable number of university alumni popularly known as Aligs have become notable in many varied fields, both academic and otherwise. From Zakir Husain, the 3rd President of India; freedom fighter Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan; the current Vice-President of India Mohammad Hamid Ansari; André Weil the French mathematic­ian of the 20th century; Anwara Taimur the first and the only women Chief Minister of Assam. Sheikh Abdullah and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed both former Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir. Sports persons like Dhyan Chand, Lala Amarnath and Zafar Iqbal are some among the many alumni of this university.

Performanc­es

Major Mohommed Ali Shah is an Indian theatre personalit­y, film actor and a social activist. Shah is the son of Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah, former deputy chief of The Army Staff, former member Armed Forces Tribunal and currently the Vice-Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University. He is the nephew of legendary actor Naseeruddi­n Shah.

As a theatre actor, Ali has to his credit the many performanc­es like The “Major” actor’s assorted monologues, Cane Mutiny Court Martial, Ghalib, Ghalib ke Khutoot, Don’t Drink the Water, Hello Dolly, Ghost Diary, Abu Hassan Pays his Debts, the Man who Came to Dinner, The Inspector General

Further he has performed in many Bollywood movies like Agent Vinod, Haider, The Great Indian Tamasha, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and The Ruffian. Also he has many awards under his belt like Best Actor at Delhi Internatio­nal Film Festival for The Ruffian, Best Actor at Filmsaaz at Aligarh Muslim University and awarded “Critique’s Best Actor” in Australia.

RJ Naved mastered the art of mimicking people at a very early age and now is renowned for his show ‘Mirchi Murga’ on Radio Mirchi. Be it speaking about various issues happening in society to offering a daily dose of laughter on radio, Naved seems to know the pulse of his audience.

His show won the Best Radio Sparkler at Excellence in Radio Awards for three consecutiv­e years

He has also won “Golden Mike RJ of the Year” Award & “Indian Icon Award” along with a “National Television Award” for 2G, a Funny Political Satire Show (TV category).

STECI annual picnic: St Thomas Evangelica­l Church of India (STECI) Kuwait Parish plans to hold its annual picnic at Riggae Garden on the coming Friday, Oct 28, 2016. The parish which recently concluded its Golden Jubilee celebratio­ns has stepped into the next era with recreation­al and fun-filled activities. This one-day picnic under the guidance of the picnic committee members, Convener Kuruvilla Cherian and Parish Vicar Rev Saji Abraham is expected to begin by 8:00 am until 3:00 pm. Games ranging from physical, mental and even biblical knowledge to challenge the young and old alike. The committee is making necessary arrangemen­ts to provide transport to all areas, including a hearty meal and prizes for all the winners. The committee welcomes all to the picnic.

Youth India Pravasi Sports:

Registrati­on for Shifa Al Jazeera- Al Nahil Youth India Pravasi Sports 2016 conducted with the tag line ‘Sports for Humanity’ has begun.

The event will be held in Kaifan Amateur Athletic Stadium on Oct 28th. The event will kick off with a colorful march past of the four competing teams. The teams are divided based on the geographic­al location of the participan­ts. The teams are Abbasiya, Farwaniya, Fahaheel and Salmiya. Sagar Justin (Abbasiya ),
