Cosplayers, gamers unite at PLAMO con event
3-day convention features Wahid Jalal alongside cosplay competition, gaming tournaments
KUWAIT CITY, Dec 3: Despite a rough start due to the pouring rain, with the collaboration of the Japanese Embassy, PLAMO con took flight last Thursday, bringing cosplayers, gamers, Anime lovers and every Japanese Pop-Culture enthusiast together for a vibrant and lively event.
Alongside a cosplay competition, a Karake contest and gaming tournaments, the three-day convention featured Wahid Jalal, a well-respected actor that brought back childhood memories of every 80s and early 90s kid that stepped foot in the convention, due to his work of being the voice of John Silver from the Arabic version of the animated series “Treasure Island”
He also lent his voice to the show “Adventures of Zeina and Nahoul”, which was a huge success with Arab children in the 80s, alongside equally popular animated hits like “The Adventures of Sinbad,” and “The Adventures of Sasuki,”
Speaking to the Arab-Times, Wahid said that this is his first visit to Kuwait and is loving every minute of it, especially when he got to meet young adults that he has had an impact on when they were just children watching cartoons.
He mentioned that he was at another convention in Dubai before coming to Kuwait, but PLAMO con seems to be more successful. When asked about his work in animated series, Wahid affirmed that cartoons back then were very different, it was entertaining, educational and informative, in addition it used to teach the Arabic Language. But nowadays, Wahid described animated series as scary, non-educational, and practically pointless. Per his professional opinion, this is due to numerous factors that includes the alienation of the Arabic language. He noted that this degradation in quality is not only found in cartoons recently, but in Arabic entertainment in general, as he mentioned that he has refused to work with 11 different series due to this degradation.
