Anthony shines as KGA blank United Goans 4-0
Don Bosco Oratory down Kerala Challengers
KUWAIT CITY, Dec 3: Kuwait Goan Association (KGA) opened up a five point gap on the league table as they won easily against United Goans Centre 4-0 in KIFF League round twelve for the J. P. D’Mello trophy powered by Gulf Cable and Electrical Co K.S.C.P and played on Dec 2. In other matches, Indian Strikers and DHL FC drew 1-1, Don Bosco Oratory beat Kerala Challengers 4-0 and FC Sparx drew with Santos United 2-2.
For the chasing pack hoping that KGA would falter after their brilliant play maker Bernardo Pires left Kuwait for good to pursue greener pastures, Anthony Rego made sure there were no such mishaps, as he struck thrice and their reliable forward Anas scored the fourth as KGA easily beat United Goans Centre 4-0. With this win, KGA who have led the points table from day one, opened a five points gap between them and Don Bosco Oratory who are placed second with a game on hand before the end of first phase of KIFF league matches before the holiday season. Man of the match was Anthony Rego of KGA and he received his award from Claro Fernandes. The center referee was Edward and he was assisted by Victor and Rafi on the lines.
Tempers were high as Santos United and FC Sparx played out a highly charged 2-2 draw with both goalkeepers gifting goals at either end. Santos United scored first through their robust defender and captain Ronny, but FC Sparx’s dependable forward Ahmed equalized to level the scores. Ronny however again gave Santos the lead from a fiercely taken free kick, but Ahmed again dashed their hopes for a win with a second half equalizer. In the dying minutes of the game, Santos United’s claim for a penalty was turned down by the referee and the match ended 2-2. Ronny was declared man of the match and he received his award from Jaime Figueira the veteran defender of Goa Maroons. The center referee Agnelo was assisted by Victor and George on the lines.
Cleetus saved Indian Strikers the blushes as he continued his recent good form to score for his team, while Abinand helped DHL FC equalize in the second half. A wet outfield did not help due to consistent drizzle as goalkeepers found it difficult to hold on to the ball and this resulted in some silly goals during this week’s matches.
Cleetus of Indian Strikers was awarded the man the match and he received his award from Lorry Travasso, a popular and well know visiting Konkani stage artist from Goa, who was in Kuwait to perform at a local charity event. Centre referee was Alidio and he was assisted by Refi and Jerry Mello on the lines.
In the last match in dark and overcast conditions, Kerala Challengers had an off day with Don Bosco Oratory in spite of missing Loyed Mascarenhas and Prisco in the starting lineup, went to to easily beat them 4-0.
Agnelo Quadros who is now the league’s highest goal scorer with seven against his name scored two, and Valenky and Prajot Naik scored one a piece. Man of the match was Agnelo Quadros and he received his award from Jerry Mello. The center referee was Derrick Gomindes and he was assisted by Edward and Agnelo on the lines.
Coming Friday schedule will conclude Phase One of KIFF league and Phase Two will commence only after the conclusion of two regular tournaments in 2017.
