Two options mulled

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 3: The committee in charge of football tournaments in Kuwait Football Association will announce its decision regarding a complex case on Sunday.

This came after the committee overturned the decision of the Football Disciplinary Committee which rejected the petition of Al-Arabi and Salmiya football clubs against Kuwait and Jahra football clubs.

The committee will conclude its findings and issue its decision in its upcoming emergency meeting. It has two options in this regard – accept the petition of Salmiya and Al-Arabi football clubs on getting the three points awarded to Kuwait and Jahra football clubs, or reject the petition and endorse the result of the matches with Kuwait and Jahra winning against Salmiya and Al-Arabi.

Salmiya and Al-Arabi football clubs protested against Kuwait and Jahra football clubs for including players, who were suspended from the cup’s championship, to participate in the tournament.

Article 99 of the football regulations affirms the right of the two teams to protest under the assumption that a disciplinary decision taken during a tournament is applicable to all other tournaments.

However, the committee did not set the deadline for addressing the issue and it is not obliged to implement the decision of the disciplinary committee.

Moreover, Al-Arabi Football Club remains firm in its decision to withdraw from the tournament if the verdict is not in its favor. In case this happens, the football club will withdraw 24 hours before its next match against Kheitan Football Club in the seventh round of the tournament. Salmiya Football Club might take a similar decision before its next match against Kazma Football Club.
