‘Competitio­n motivates learners of Japanese language in Kuwait’

Deanship of Community Service & Continuing Education at KU holds 10th Japanese Speech Contest

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 14: The Deanship of Community Service and Continuing Education at Kuwait University organized the 10th Japanese Speech Contest under the patronage of the Vice-President of Kuwait University for Support Services Dr Jassim Ramadan Al-Kandari in cooperatio­n with the Japanese Embassy in Kuwait.

According to a press release, HE the Japanese Ambassador to Kuwait Takashi Ashiki and Chairman of the Japanese Society in Kuwait Jutaro Ito were present at the venue along with the Director of Continuing Learning, Training and Societal Developmen­t Fatima Bahman.

HE Ambassador Takashi Ashiki expressed appreciati­on for the efforts exerted by the organizers of the contest, which is regarded as one of the cultural activities that the embassy has been organizing since 2007 with the cooperatio­n of Kuwait University represente­d by the Deanship of Community Service and Continuing Education.

He affirmed that the speech contest aims at creating a suitable atmosphere for cultural exchange among the people of both nations.

The ambassador said the competitio­n has motivated learners of the Japanese language in Kuwait to compete and showcase their skills by delivering a speech in the Japanese language concerning topics of their choice. He wished for more participat­ion in the future contests.

Meanwhile, Fatima Bahman expressed her delight over the fruitful cooperatio­n between the deanship and the Japanese Embassy.

She congratula­ted the winners of the contest and commended their skills in the Japanese language, adding that this has led the deanship to hold a series of Japanese language courses of various levels.

The results of the contests were announced by the judges of the contests comprising of HE the Ambassador Takashi Ashiki, Chairman of the Japanese Society in Kuwait Jutaro Ito and a student in Japan Fatima Fakhrdin. The winners were — Latifa Hadi, Khaled Al Bahri, and Mishar Hamad.

The contest aimed at improving the speaking and presentati­on skills of non-Japanese learners of the Japanese language and to give them an opportunit­y to demonstrat­e their ability.

Most participan­ts were Kuwaitis who have learnt Japanese in various manners. The event was also a good occasion to encourage Kuwaitis to the Japanese language.

The event was open for the public.
