Awqaf minister says keen on maintaining moderation
Youth initiative launched by Kuwaiti envoy to Italy hailed
KUWAIT CITY, Dec 14, (KUNA): Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Mohammad Al-Jabri has affirmed his keenness on maintaining moderation and “combating extremism and thoughts of annihilation.” Minister Al-Jabri, the sole legislator in the recently formed new cabinet, made the assertion during a ceremony marking his assumption of the senior post.
The newly-assigned minister affirmed his keenness on maintaining “moderation, his resolve to fight radicalism and destructive thoughts; because our religion is a religion of moderation,” indicating that scholars in the country are supportive of this approach.
The State of Kuwait has repeatedly affirmed that it advocates Islam as a religion of moderation and peaceful co-existence among diverse communities. Kuwait hosts communities from various nations of diverse faiths, with freedom to practice their beliefs.
On his call to pray for the people of Aleppo, the minister replied, “this is the least we can offer to our stricken brothers in Aleppo” praying to His Almighty to relieve them of their hardships.
The State of Kuwait has urged the Security Council to shoulder its responsibilities towards the tragic conditions in Aleppo and called for an irregular Arab meeting to look into the plight of the war-battered residents of the Syrian city.
A Gulf student delegation has visited the University of Rome Tor Vergata, on the second day of a journey to Italy, as part of the “Youth Ambassadors of the Gulf” initiative.
The 70-member delegation, led by the GCC Youth Commission Khaled Issa, was accompanied during the Tuesday visit by Kuwait’s Ambassador to Italy Sheikh Ali Al-Khaled Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. They toured some of the university facilities, colleges and scientific centers.
The GCC youth also met with President of University of Rome Tor Vergata professor Giuseppe Novelli and a host of the professors.
Novelli said such youth initiatives within the university and scientific framework, offered the best means for cultural communication among people.

He briefed the delegation on the special nature of the university, and its keenness on promoting scientific and research cooperation, working within the framework of a network of 18 European universities, besides two American ones.
Novelli noted that they are keen on boosting cooperation with the Gulf universities and scientific and research centers.
Meanwhile, the GCC youth visited Gulf patients receiving treatment at the institute of Mediterranean blood diseases at the Tor Vergata International Medical School.
Talking to KUNA, professor Novelli lauded the youth initiative launched by the Kuwaiti envoy Sheikh Ali Al-Khaled Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for promoting these bilateral ties.
He said that the Rome Tor Vergata has concluded a host of agreements with universities in the Gulf, as part of an approach that includes opening departments for studying the Arabic language and Islamic culture.
On his part, the Kuwaiti Ambassador Sheikh Ali Al-Khaled highly appreciated the Italian university and its keenness to act as a gate for further communication with youth of the Gulf, as well as for enhancing cultural and humanitarian values.
