Overheard in the Souk the grapevine

-

Following the opening session of the new parliament, the opposition could not score any important goals as they missed their targets.

Prior to this session, the opposition announced their plan to contest and win key posts in the parliament namely speaker, deputy speaker, secretary and observer of the parliament. These posts surely went to other MPs who are pro-government.

The opposition was planning to dominate the new parliament not only with their number, but also through holding key positions, but unfortunately this could not happen during this session. Does this mean the beginning of the end of the opposition or they have any other strength to control and influence the new parliament. People believe that the opposition can make serious impact in the new parliament through the laws that will be enacted. Let’s wait and see the impact that will be made by the opposition in this new parliament.

‘Tis the season to be jolly! With the holiday season in the air, it’s been festive in most shopping malls in Kuwait this December with all the sale and mark down prizes of clothes, shoes, make-up, perfume and even appliance as well as furniture.

Shoppers scamper for holiday gifts for their friends, family and even for themselves. Christmas is getting close and sale is left and right. One can just shop till one drops but what happens when the new year comes in? Many may complain “I’m broke now,” so to avoid this from happening, one should not go on shopping spree like there’s no tomorrow.

First look into your budget and don’t be like any other shopaholic. Write the most important stuff that meets your budget. Prioritize your gift list. It’s not the worth of the gift but it’s the thought that counts.

Avoid impulse buying! Try to innovate and be creative, you can search on the internet for some “Do-It-Yourself” holiday presents and people appreciate more the DIY stuff.

There are a lot of ways to enjoy the holiday shopping and not end up getting broke and that’s the best way to start a prosperous New Year.

Christmas is in the air and the enthusiasm and eagerness of some can be impossible to match. Many feel the need to spread holiday cheer. It is time to brace yourself for an onslaught of the corniest jokes and wordplays of the season.

Before you know it, you will find yourself in the midst of a knock-knock rampage. Knock. Knock. Who’s there? Hanna. Hanna who? Hanna partridge in a pear tree! In moments like these, when the urge to walk away is so strong, remember that the term Grinch shall apply when Christmas spirit is in short supply.
