Augsburg sack Schuster:

Augsburg have sacked coach Dirk Schuster after the Bavarian team managed just one win in their last nine Bundesliga games, the club said in a statement on Wednesday.

Reserve team coach Manuel Baum will take over on an interim basis at Augsburg, who are 13th with three wins this season.

“After deep analysis of the current sporting situation club officials reached the conclusion that there were difference­s with regard to the sporting developmen­t and the way Augsburg plays football,” the club added. (RTRS)

Birmingham sack Rowett:

Chineseown­ed Birmingham City sacked manager Gary Rowett on Wednesday after he spent more than two years in charge, saying the decision had been taken for long-term strategic reasons. The English Championsh­ip (second-tier) side are seventh in the standings after beating Ipswich Town 2-1 on Tuesday, with former City defender Rowett, 42, in charge since October 2014.

The club said in a statement there was “genuine sadness” at Rowett’s exit but new owners Trillion Trophy Asia (TTA) were “determined to lead the club to a bright and exciting future. (RTRS)

Oscar set for move to China:

Brazilian internatio­nal midfielder Oscar is to become the latest big name to move to China in a £60 million transfer ($76m, 71.5m euros) from Chelsea to Shanghai SIPG, British media reported on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old — who would be the second Brazilian star from the Premier League leaders to leave for China in a year — had been a target of Shanghai manager Andre Villas-Boas since the Portuguese managed Spurs in the 2012/13 season. (AFP)

Wake fires radio analyst:

Wake Forest has fired a former assistant coach-turned-broadcaste­r who the school says attempted to leak football game plans to opponents for three years.

The school on Tuesday night announced the findings of a nearly monthlong investigat­ion that started after documents related to the team’s plans for the Louisville game were discovered at the Cardinals’ stadium.

In a statement, the school placed the blame on Tommy Elrod — a former Wake Forest player and assistant under former coach Jim Grobe. Elrod was not retained by Dave Clawson when he succeeded Grobe in 2014, and he became an analyst for the IMG College radio broadcasts of the Demon Deacons’ games. (AP)

McKnight family, DA meet:

An attorney for the family of slain former NFL running back Joe McKnight says the player’s family has met with prosecutor­s to discuss next steps in the legal case against his accused shooter.

Attorney George Tucker tells The New Orleans Advocate that McKnight’s mother, his sister and the mother of his child met with the district attorney Tuesday. (AP)
