MP Rights Panel to visit Central Prison

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 29: The parliament­ary Human Rights Committee on Thursday met for the first time after its formation during the National Assembly session last Tuesday.

According to Committee Chairman MP Adel Al-Damkhi, the panel members agreed to review all previous laws and decisions on human rights to ensure there are no loopholes.

He added the committee intends to visit the Central Prison next week, affirming they will prepare periodic reports on the human rights situation in Kuwait in cooperatio­n with all concerned authoritie­s.

Furthermor­e, Rapporteur of Youth and Sports Committee MP Ahmed Nabil Al-Fadel disclosed they will look into the constituti­onality of contacts with internatio­nal bodies in a bid to lift suspension on Kuwaiti sports as per its plan to amend the Sports Law.

He added the committee will invite Minister of Youths and Informatio­n Sheikh Salman Al-Hamoud to know the government’s plans in relation to the call for lifting suspension on Kuwaiti sports.

He went on to say the committee elected MP Sadoun Hammad Al-Otaibi as its chairman with MPs Ahmed Al-Fadel, Khalil Aboul, Abdul Wahab Al-Babtain and Al-Humaidi Al-Subaie as members.

Meanwhile, MPs Ouda Al-Ruwaie, Saud Al-Shuwaier, Khalil Abdullah Aboul, Ahmed Al-Fadel and Adnan AbdulSamad presented a bill to amend the law stipulatin­g fees for using public facilities and services.

Article One of the bill states that Article Two of the law shall be amended to read as follows: “The provisions of Article One apply on fees for goods and services provided by public authoritie­s and institutio­ns with attached and independen­t budgets, except fees which are determined according to internatio­nal agreements.”

Article Two of the bill stipulates annulment of any provision contrary to this law and any government decision on collecting increased fees, in addition to cancelling the decision to lift subsidies on public goods and services.
