PBAK -2017 Philippine Independen­ce Bowling Cup rolls off

Al Qassem Strikers, Original Pin Killers, Nusantara lead opening

KUWAIT CITY, March 11: The pin busters of the Philippine Bowling Associatio­n in Kuwait (PBAK) are again back in action as the PBAK – 2017 Philippine Independen­ce Bowling Cup kicked off on Friday at the Cozmo Bowling Center in Kheifan. Twelve teams joined the team competitio­n composed of various nationalit­ies in each line up. In its inaugural showdown six teams that posted victories were the top rated teams in the last tournament: Al Qassem Strikers, Original Pin Killers, Nusantara, Mangaf Strikers, Cozmo and Indian Bowling League.

The opening ceremony commended with the parade of colours by the Boy Scouts from the New Kuwait-Philippine Internatio­nal English School followed by the participat­ing bowlers from the 12 vying teams and tournament directors followed by the singing of the national anthems of Kuwait and the Philippine­s.

Lito Michael and Ahmad Fahmi led the invocation followed by the welcome remarks of PBAK vice president Sonia Mathews and the introducti­on of the guest speaker by PBAK president Rudy de Lima. Guest of honour Philippine Embassy Consul General Atty Jabbar Adiong delivered an inspiratio­nal message as he wished all the players good luck. After which, Mathews led the Oath of sportsmans­hip then the declaratio­n of Tour open by the over-all tournament director Hermie Saliba and finally the ceremonial ball rolling led by Adiong, tournament directors and players.

Competing teams will be playing with handicappi­ng system and after the eliminatio­n round, the top six teams will be playing for a two-week round robin. The tourney also features the singles’ event for the ladies and men’s categories. Special awards will be presented to teams and bowlers with high averages and high scores. After the first round play, the Al Qassem Strikers was declared Team of the Week (2901); Team High Game Scratch (966) and Team High Series (2901).
