Dean slams lack of coordination between MoE, teachers colleges
KLS outrightly rejects employing expat consultants
KUWAIT CITY, March 13: Dean of the College of Education at Kuwait University Dr Bader Al-Omar has criticized lack of coordination between the Ministry of Education and teachers’ colleges. He wondered why the College of Education was excluded from participating in the preparation of the new competency syllabus, reports Al Nahar daily.
In an interview with the daily, Dr Al-Omar denied that Education graduates become strangers while in the field. He explained all courses of the college needed improvement. He went on to describe competency based syllabus as ‘great’, even though not every syllabus can be applied adequately in the field. He stressed the importance of transforming educational culture from one perspective to another— in the case of school heads, pupils, guardians and teachers as a pre-requisite for success.
He hopes to see the diminishing role of dependence on paper texts, saying the knowledge is now in virtual/Cyberspace and we need to give more chance to self-learning, while investing in different forms of media.
He also refused the idea of using iPad in learning, indicating it is another form of book and a store of knowledge. However, iPad should serve as means of attaining information and evaluation of its usage in learning should be done to determine its success rate.
Meanwhile, Kuwait Lawyers Society (KLS) stated outright rejection of the approach of some official bodies employing expatriate consultants while Kuwait is rich in human resources in that aspect, reports Al-Rai daily.
Secretary of Kuwait Lawyers Society Hanan Al-Foudari said the State official bodies are supposed to support the national capability by taking serious steps toward ‘Kuwaitization’ in line with Cabinet’s recommendations.
She added that 800 Kuwaiti lawyers are waiting for job opportunities and noted the Lawyers Society is ready to hire legal consultants from the segment. She pointed out that no advertisements for legal consultants have been published whereas official bodies have turned to foreign countries to recruit legal consultants.
