‘PAI to allocate sites in Salmi to build recycling factories within eight months’
Railway project authorities study comp to farmers
KUWAIT CITY, March 13: The Public Authority for Industry will allocate sites in Salmi area for the construction of recycling factories within eight months for the production of materials using the tyres dumped in Ardiya area after they are cut up, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting sources.
They said the authority, with the cooperation of Ministry of Public Works, will prepare these factories for producing necessary materials to strengthen asphalt/ bitumen which will be used for paving streets in the future.
The sources revealed that the factories to be established in Salmi area will be issued industrial licenses to launch operations for using the torn tyres in other industries such as tiles, asphalt, raw materials and rubber.
Meanwhile, the authorities in charge of the construction of the railway line that will connect GCC member states are studying the possibility of compensating farm owners in Wafra whose farmlands lie in the way of the railway line, reports Al-Shahed daily.
According to informed sources, the state will not be obliged to compensate these farmers who were beneficiaries of free lands, considering the fact that the state only receives symbolic rental fees.
They explained that the farms are not citizens’ properties but were leased to them just like chalets, stables and the like, which are state properties. Therefore, according to the contracts signed between the state bodies and the recipients, the latter do not have the right to ask for any compensation if the state decides to take back or repossess the property due to either violations or the state’s need for them for another purpose.
Citizens and expatriates spend close to one billion dinars per year (KD 2.5 million daily) at restaurants and fast-food joints, and the huge expenditure complements the significant increase in the number of restaurants in the country, exceeding 5000, reports Al-Shahed daily.
The daily quoting sources said the average individual spends about KD 3,600 per annum at restaurants and fast-food joints, indicating the sector takes a big share of the average individual income of KD 7,450 (about 48.3 percent). They added about 20 percent of the people frequent restaurants and fast-food joints on a daily basis.
