KUWAIT CITY, Feb 13: The Court of Cassation nullified the verdict of the Court of Appeals that acquitted five people alleged to have joined DAESH and funded some activities of the group.

The Appellate Court thereby sentenced the first suspect to 10 years in prison with hard labor, and refrained from pronouncing penalty against four others who were made to sign undertakings to be of good conduct.

The Public Prosecution Department charged the first to the fourth suspects for allegedly joining the outlawed group Islamic State for Iraq and Levant (ISIL), which adopts extreme ideology of violence against governments and inciting people to do so.

The defendants were standing trial for fighting against some foreign countries without the consent of government, an act capable of severing relationships between Kuwait and the countries in question. The first and third suspects were alleged to have trained on the use of weapons and fought on the side of terrorists in the respective countries.

The Administrative Court canceled the decision of the Ministry of Finance which not only refrained from considering the previous service of an employee but also terminated his current service.

According to the petition submitted by Lawyer Abdulaziz Al-Banwan on behalf of his client, the employee, after joining the ministry, had requested it to consider his previous service along with his actual work but he did not get a response. He then discovered that his service was terminated and was reinstated in his same job without his agreement.
