Gang held for stealing cables, generators

KUWAIT CITY, March 13: Ahmadi securityme­n arrested a gang of two Egyptians, a Bedoun and an Iraqi for stealing copper cables and power generators in coordinati­on with an inmate of the Central Prison.

The gang is said to have dismantled and sold the stolen items at Amghara scrapyard.

A security source said officers from the Criminal Investigat­ion Department received several complaints regarding copper cable and generator thefts in camps and livestock pens, and a team of officers was formed to trail the suspects, which led to a member of the gang (the first Egyptian suspect). He accompanie­d security operatives to his accomplice­s. They told the officers the fifth suspect is an inmate of the central prisons. All four suspects have since been referred to the Public Prosecutio­n.

Meanwhile, officials from the Public Hygiene and Road Usage Department at Farwaniya Municipali­ty recently embarked on an inspection campaign against street hawkers and makeshift markets in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, and confiscate­d 10 trucks of fruits and vegetables, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Chairman of the department Sa’ad Al-Khreinj issued a statement indicating the Municipal officials had seized several clothing. He noted 60 personnel participat­ed in the campaign with equipment and the department has set solid plan to counter negative phenomena and violation of regulation­s. He assured that necessary steps will be taken against violators based on directives from the Director of Farwaniya Municipali­ty Engineer Mohammad Sarkhou.

In a related developmen­t, Chairman of Public Hygiene and Road Usage Department at Jahra Municipali­ty Fahad Al-Qarefah disclosed that officials from the department carried out another campaign in Amghara and removed 80 loads of garbage. He also said the officials lifted 147 bags and 11 loads of solid waste, in addition to six loads of planks in the scrap yard and 63 loads of used tires. He noted the officials made use of 4 caterpilla­rs and 45 employees in the campaign.
