KUWAIT CITY, March 26: Ministry of Education Undersecretary Dr Haitham Al-Athari disclosed that classes have been suspended at three schools in Ahmadi Educational Zone due to damage caused by last Friday’s heavy downpour, reports Al-Anba daily.

The affected schools include Al-Nasr Secondary School for Boys, Ohm O’Mara Primary School for Girls and AlSabahiya Kindergarten.

Meanwhile, report will be submitted to Cabinet at its ordinary session on the water level at Sabahiya-Mangaf tunnel reaching two and half meters due to failure of the manholes and drainage system, says Al-Anba daily.

The daily quoting legal sources said those who incurred losses as a result of the incident will be compensated, particularly car owners, landlords, owners of diwaniyas, and those who suffered health issues, but the government will only compensate victims who registered their cases officially.

In the meantime, Ministry of Health said the emergency room received a total of 433 calls for assistance due to the recent rains in the country, and the rescue teams dealt with 4-6 emergency and non-emergency cases, reports Al-Shahed daily.

It revealed that most of the calls were from Ahmadi Governorate followed by Jahra Governorate, affirming that all cases have been handled well and no death cases were registered.

Director of Zain Hospital Dr Shoja’a Al-Enzi disclosed the intention to expand the hospital through the construction of an annex or extension of the current building to serve the extreme number of visitors, reports Al-Anba daily.

Al-Enzi lamented the plan may not be implemented due to lack of budget. He noted roughly 5,000 surgeries are performed by the hospital, while the clinics receive roughly 2,200 visitors monthly. He said the rate of surgeries performed will go up by 25 percent after inauguration of the new operation theaters.
