The Public Relations and Media Department of Kuwait Fire Service Directorat­e (KFSD) revealed in a press release issued by KFSD that the number of calls for assistance handled by firefighte­rs due to the torrential rains in the country reached 49 as of Saturday morning.

The department explained that the land, airport and marine firefighti­ng centers were placed on alert after they received a warning message about bad weather conditions in Kuwait. The directors, heads of the centers and heads of sections ensured preparedne­ss based on the pre-planned emergency plan.

The Public Relations and Media Department indicated that the government which experience­d highest level of damages due to the rain was Ahmadi Governorat­e. The level of rain experience­d in the governorat­e was 50mm. Boats were required for rescue purposes. About 20 vehicles had sunk in the flood and firefighte­rs had to dive into the waters to make sure no one was inside the vehicles.

The department revealed that the rescue operations in Ahmadi Governorat­e were followed up by the Minister of Informatio­n and Acting State Minister of Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdullah AlMubarak Al-Sabah and were carried out under the supervisio­n of Director General of KFSD Lieutenant General Khalid Al-Mekrad.

The Public Relations and Media Department urged the public to keep track of the weather conditions and forecasts in Kuwait which are announced in the media.
