10 draft resolutions approved for Arab Summit

DEAD SEA, Jordan, March 26, (KUNA): In preparation for the next Arab summit, the Arab Economic and Social Council’s ministerial meeting approved 10 draft resolutions, focusing on providing support to Arab countries hosting Syrian refugees, boosting Arab trade, and strengthening cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
The spokeswoman for the preparatory ministerial meeting, Rima Alaiddin said, in a press briefing at the summit’s media center here, that the 10 draft resolutions will be submitted to Arab summit leaders for final approval.
The State of Kuwait was represented during the meeting by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Anas Al-Saleh.
Alaiddin also noted that other draft resolutions were related to Arab trade, the Greater Free Trade region, and the developments of Arab Customs Union, where Arab League Secretariat will begin drafting a protocol for the Customs Union and starting its implementation at its minimum level.
The ministers also agreed to strengthen economic, scientific, technological research, innovation, food security knowledge in the Arab world, and also agreed on a strategy for aquaculture, Alaiddin noted.
At the end of the meeting the ministerial council agreed the (Cairo Declaration) regarding Arab women, the Arab Strategy for the Advancement of Women in 2030, namely as the strategic draft of the Arab region to promote women’s political, economic and social empowerment and to protect them from all forms of violence, armed conflicts and terrorism in line with the International agenda for Sustainable Development 2030, the spokeswomen added.
The ministers stressed the importance of providing full and necessary support to Arab countries hosting the Syrian refugees, including setting up development projects in such countries to alleviate the economic and social consequences of being a refugee, calling on the international community to share responsibility in the face of this escalating crisis.
Other main issues highlighted in the meeting included the social perspective of combating terrorism as one of the main challenges affecting Arab social development, Alaiddin added.
