Aden University hails Kuwait total support to Yemen people
Urgent aid campaign for drought-hit Somalis
RIYADH, April 3, (KUNA): The University of Aden on Monday highly appreciated Kuwait’s support to the Yemeni people who are experiencing terrible conditions.
The university honored the Chairman of the Patients Helping Fund Society and the head of the Health Committee of the Kuwait Society for Relief Dr Mohammad Al-Sharhan, offering him its golden shield.
The honoring came in recognition of Al-Sharhan’s efforts in support of the health education sector in Yemen within the framework of the “Kuwait beside you” relief campaign, according to a statement by the health committee.
According to the statement, University President Dr AlKhedr Nasser Lasour expressed gratitude and high appreciation to the State of Kuwait and the Kuwaiti people for their generous support to Yemen, saying it will also serve education in the various faculties.
He said that the University has a host of future projects and is looking forward to further Kuwaiti support, referring to the huge devastation caused by war in Aden.
On his part, Dr Al-Sharhan voiced pleasure for visiting the “teaching edifice” whose graduates took part in the building and development in Yemen and the neighboring countries.
He added that the university will have a good share of the third phase of the health committee relief campaign.
Meanwhile, the health committee delegation visited the Yemeni Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr Hussein Abdulrahman Baslama. The meeting discussed the cooperation between the universities and the research institutions in both countries.
The delegation also visited the Yemeni Health Ministry’s Primary Health Care, where they were acquainted with the services it offers.
Meanwhile, the Kuwait-based Mercy International, affiliated to the Association of Social Reform, on Monday announced the launch of an urgent relief campaign for the victims of drought in Somalia.
The campaign includes medical programs, food packages and mobile water tanks, to be carried out in cooperation with Kuwait’s Zakat House, the Kuwait Relief Society, the International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) and Al-Najat Charity, besides Qatar’s Eid Charity Foundation, head of the African section at the Mercy International Saad Al-Otaibi told KUNA.
Mercy International and partners are targeting the regions most affected by the drought wave in Somalia, with a shortterm plan, offering food, and a long-term one that will see water wells dug for the benefit of about 7,000 people, he added.
Al-Otaibi noted that the partnership between the charity organizations in Kuwaiti and the Gulf region has come to form a pillar of humanitarian efforts to overcome challenges and reach victims in areas of conflicts. Somalia is one of four countries at high risk of famine, in addition to Nigeria, South Sudan and Yemen, Al-Otaibi said citing UN report.
