KUWAIT CITY, April 6, (Agencies): Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mohammad Al-Fares affirmed the importance of students’ participation in regional and international competitions which will help in polishing their skills, developing their abilities, motivating them and providing them with opportunities to enter competitions in the future.

The minister said this at Kuwait International Airport when he went to receive the five Kuwaiti students who are winners of silver and bronze medals in the physics and mathematics competitions organized by the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States.

In his statement to the press, Dr Al-Fares affirmed that the achievement of these five students is testimony to the fact that their efforts did not go in vain, assuring that Ministry of Education provided every necessary support to them and facilitated their win.

The minister expressed appreciation and gratitude to those in charge of the competition for the support they provided the students.

He explained that, “With the ministry’s participation through its students, it has managed to achieve one of its fundamental objectives through such competitions, which is to provide opportunity for students to present their creativity in their academic spectrum”.

He expressed hope that doors will be opened for students to participate in chemistry-related competitions.

Dr Al-Fares dedicated this achievement to His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, promising more support for similar type of activities.

He affirmed that the ministry will provide all types of capabilities and support on various aspects with the ambition of further participations of students from Kuwait in such international competitions.

The minister revealed about a work plan which will focus on continuing such student achievements and opening bigger base to give opportunity to other students for competing and participating.

Assistant Undersecretary for Private Education in the Ministry of Education Dr AbdulMohsin Al-Huwailah said recently “no school has the right to oblige students to buy revision notes as the schools are required to use textbooks provided by the ministry only”.

He added the sector is reviewing regulations concerning education and the prices of school uniform to prevent the exaggeration of uniform prices. He added teachers are not obliged to pay the expenses for renewal of their residency or any other service unless it is mentioned in their contracts with the schools.

He called for teachers exposed to the above-stated situation to file formal complaints for legal redress. He noted the teachers may contact the Directorate of Private Education or visit its official website in case of any complaint.

Concerning the fees of private schools, Al-Huwaila stressed Decision No. 112/2016 excludes any increase in the school fees for academic year 2016/2017 or an increase of more than 3 percent for each term for 2017/2018. He reiterated the ministry will take legal action against schools that violate regulations through direct warning and followed by cancellation of license.
