KUWAIT CITY, April 6: The Court of Appeals upheld the ruling of the Court of First Instance that sentenced a Kuwaiti man who allegedly killed his friend inside an apartment in Salmiya area to life imprisonment.

The case file indicated the culprit took out a gun and shot down his compatriot friend. The victim was rushed to hospital for possible resuscitation but gave up the ghost upon reaching the hospital after losing too much blood. Detectives later arrested the suspect who confessed to the crime. Investigation revealed the duo was close friends and the sad event had resulted from a disagreement.

Egyptian acquitted:

The Cassation Court upheld the verdict issued by the Court of Appeals which acquitted an Egyptian expatriate against whom a State Security case was filed for allegedly offending the entity of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait and other state symbols through some posts on his Twitter account.

It is worth mentioning that the defense counsel demanded the referral of his client for psychiatric treatment, as the psychiatric report affirmed that he was “crazy and not responsible for his actions”.

According to the case file, the internal security apparatus was alerted by the suspect’s posts on his Twitter account through which he offended the entity of the leadership, state symbols and the people of Kuwait. He also published photographs of the late Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, praising and glorifying him. The suspect had also posted pictures of the private parts of his body.

The security teams conducted investigations to identify him. Armed with an arrest warrant from Public Prosecution, they arrested him and confiscated his mobile phone. The suspect denied putting up those posts and claimed his account was hacked. Security teams affirmed through investigations that his account was never tampered with.

Not guilty in rape:

The Criminal Court acquitted an individual who was accused of raping, threatening and incapacitating the plaintiff.

The defense counsel Lawyer Mohammad Khaleel Al-Qattan explained that the Public Prosecution, during the trial, failed to convince the court about the actual incident, as the only testimony that the prosecution based its case on was the victim’s statement.

He stressed that his client did not have any weapon to threaten and subdue the victim.

Lawyer Al-Qattan revealed that the procedures taken to arrest his client were not based on an arrest warrant issued by the Public Prosecution, due to which the entire case can be deemed as invalid.

Travel ban:

According to statistics issued by the Ministry of Justice, 14,274 people were banned from travel in just one month (January 2017), reports Annahar daily.

During the same month 11,553 search and arrest warrants were issued by the Ministry of Interior, reports the daily.

Woman found dead:

A 1962-born Kuwaiti woman died of natural

causes inside her house in Adaliya area.

According to security sources, when the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior received information about the death of the woman, securitymen rushed to the location with paramedics to discover the woman is a Kuwaiti citizen. Her corpse was referred to the Forensics Department. A case of natural death was registered.

Women harassed:

A 33-year old Kuwaiti woman accused a Syrian expatriate of calling her at night, attempting to convince her into an illicit

affair with him and sending her explicit messages and pictures.

After she provided securitymen with the suspect’s mobile number, they carried out investigations to discover he is a Syrian expatriate living in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area. A case of immoral instigation was filed against him and necessary steps were taken for his arrest.
