Kuwait English School’s production Cirque de la vie, was a unique show that creatively incorporated a huge array of performances. It showcased the many talents of senior students and staff and ran for two sell-out nights on Sunday 2nd and Monday the 3rd of April.

The concert was a collaboration between the Music, Drama and the Art/DT departments and involved over 150 students. The acting and dancing was driven by Mrs Marie Naylor and Miss Jenny Dunne and the music by Mr Michael Hassan, Mr Stephen Tarry and Ms Donna Clarke.

Led by three professional and entertaining student compères, Khaled Al Foudari,

Photos from the event Jessy Hallak and Atena Moradfar, each item was introduced with aplomb.

There was a superb variety of performances, ranging from contemporary dance numbers, comic sketches, tragedy monologues, choirs, vocal and instrumental ensembles, bands, and soloists, something for everyone to enjoy and never a dull moment. The theatrics were further enhanced by wonderful costume design, lighting effects and creative props.

Highlights of Act 1 included a dynamic dance troupe performing to Justin Timberlake’s ‘Can’t stop the feeling’ and the hilarious comedy skit ‘Two Soups’. It also featured vocal soloist Sara Shuhaiber and dancer Louis Barras-Hargan. Musical highlights were the string orchestra and rousing numbers from the band. This half concluded with the a cappella choir’s energised rendition of ‘Hamba Lulu’ by Mike Brewer.

Act 2 showcased more phenomenal acts including a fantastic Charlie Chaplin Routine, a Parisian dance number ‘Don’t cry for Louie’ and the winner of the KES talent show 2017, Rani Madi playing the Spanish guitar. The night concluded with the full cast on stage for an upbeat interpretation of the well known song ‘Gimme Some Lovin’. A wonderful end to a wonderful evening, which saw the audience burst into a standing ovation.

Mrs Rhoda Muhmood MBE, School Director, Mrs Rula Al Saddah, Mrs Naela Al Saddah and Mrs Janet Carew, Senior school Principal, conveyed everyone’s thoughts when thanking students, staff and parents for all their hard work saying that the students “inspired all of us with their perfection”.

Huge congratulations must go to Mrs Naylor, Miss Dunne, Ms Clarke and Mr Hassan and everyone else involved for their dedication and hard work in producing such wonderful and memorable nights. However the final note must be for the students: well done for giving us a truly phenomenal show.
