in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka. (KUNA) CAIRO, April 10, (KUNA): Kuwaiti Minister of Commerce and Industry and State Minister for Youth Affairs Khaled Al-Roudan on Monday underlined Kuwait’s keenness on supporting and encouraging youth.

Addressing the 40th session of the Council of Arab Youth and Sports Ministers held in Cairo today, Al-Roudan said that the “enlightened and cultured” Kuwaiti youth have found their way to the National Assembly (parliament) forming about 20 percent of the MPs.

He added that Kuwaiti young people also have a share in the government.

Throughout history, the Arab youth have shown hard work, perseverance and diligence, and “made history,” the minister said, calling for enhancing their selfconfidence, and supporting their capabilities.

The Kuwaiti minister pointed out that today’s meeting comes amid exceptional hard conditions sweeping the Arab World, casting a dull shadow on all Arabs.

He called for more attention to be paid to the Arab youth so that they might not fall prey to terrorist and extremist groups already “ambushing” them.

Al-Roudan expressed condolences to Egypt over the victims of the terrorist attacks that targeted two churches in the Egypian cities of Tanta and Alexandria, on Sunday leaving scores of people killed or wounded.

The Arab League has called for investing the energies of young people in national development and protecting them from extremism and terrorism.

The call was made by Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League for Social Affairs Ambassador Badr Eddin Alali in a keynote speech during the 40th session of the Council of Arab Youth and Sports Ministers in Cairo on Monday. He said it is imperative for Arab countries to involve young people in their respective development processes by means of building

their capabilities and giving them access to political, economic, health and educational activities.

He also stressed the importance of giving young people their due role in pushing forward sustainable development and speeding up growth in their own countries.

However, the league’s official sounded the alarm about protests and demonstrations by young people against joblessness, marginalization and non-involvement in social, economic and political domains in a correct scientific manner.

On his part, Chairman of the Meeting and Deputy Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council Ahmad Meetig called for promoting young people’s national identity, boosting their capabilities, providing them with jobs and giving them a role in decision-making.

He also underlined the necessity of fanning out the culture of dialogue and effective citizenship and finding concrete solutions that would put Arab youth on the right track by encouraging them to learn more in a positive manner and spurring creative youth.
