Govt has nothing to hide about fake citizenship issue: Al-Azab

MPs eye integrated medical city

KUWAIT CITY, April 15: Minister of Justice and State Minister for National Assembly Affairs Dr Faleh Al-Azab said the government has nothing to hide concerning the fake citizenship issue, reports Al-Jareda daily.

Al-Azab pointed out the government does not mind the parliamentary request to investigate those suspected of holding fake citizenship by the Interior and Defense Committee provided the request does not violate the Constitution or the National Assembly Decree.

He stressed that forming committees is one of the main rights of the Parliament but the government will see if such a step is within the limits of the decree and the Constitution.

He affirmed the government fully cooperates with the Parliament in addressing all issues which serve the interests of the State and citizens.

This came after MPs Waleed Al-Tabtabaei, Jamaan Al-Harbash, Yusuf Al-Fadala, Adel Al-Damkhi, Abdulwahab AlBabteen, Osama Al-Shaheen, Muhammad Al-Dallal, Khaled Al-Utaibi, Riyad Al-Adasani and Thamer Al-Suwait presented a request to instruct the Interior and Defense Committee to investigate fake citizenship cases over the years.

On the extradition agreement signed by Kuwait and Britain, Al-Azab regards it as a very important step in bringing back officials involved in corruption including former director of the Public Authority for Social Security Fahd Al-Jumia’an, confirming the treaty will be enforced upon publication in the official gazette.

About the expected grilling of HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Al-Azab said the government will deal with the issue in accordance with the Constitution and Parliament Decree.

He added the government does not resent MPs who present grilling requests as they are just exercising oversight.

A number of MPs are planning to present a bill for establishment of an integrated medical city in Kuwait, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting informed sources.

They indicated that this medical city will resemble similar medical cities in developed countries and will provide medical services exclusively to Kuwaiti citizens.

The sources said this bill is based on the MPs’ keenness and concern in ensuring distinguished medical services are provided to Kuwaiti citizens by international health centers approved by the state and for reducing the burden of overseas treatment.

They explained that the medical city will be in the form of a company whose shares will be distributed to three groups — private sector, the government represented by the Kuwait Investment Authority and the rest for citizens.

The establishment of the medical city will reflect positively on the coffers of the state in saving public funds on one hand and triggering economy growth in the country on the other hand.
