MP critical as new labour law ends ‘mafia’ exploitation

Agencies KUWAIT CITY, April 15: An Egyptian expatriate was arrested at Kuwait International Airport in possession of 14 pieces of hashish.
According to security sources, airport customs officers had suspected an Egyptian passenger and checked him to find the hashish pieces in cigarette packets.
The suspect was arrested and referred with the hashish pieces to the concerned authorities for necessary legal action.
Meanwhile, a Kuwaiti citizen and an Egyptian expatriate were arrested in Mahboula area in possession of methamphetamine.
Ahmadi securitymen were patrolling Mahboula area when they came across the two suspects and discovered sachets of methamphetamine on them. They were arrested and referred with the drug to the Drugs Control General Department for investigations.
In addition, a Syrian expatriate was arrested in Salmiya area in possession of methamphetamine and heroin. He was referred with the drugs to the concerned authorities for necessary action.
87 arrested:
Detectives from the Residency Affairs Department in the Interior Ministry arrested 87 persons found to have violated the Residency and Labor laws.
In a press statement, the Public Relations and Security Media General Department received information that a house in Jleeb Al-Shoyoukh serves as shelter for a huge number of Residency Law violators and absconders who engage in immoral activities, sell alcohol, conduct human trade and hold people against their will.
Based on the tip-off, a task force team was formed to verify the information. After taking the necessary legal measures, the officers raided the house and arrested 31 individuals of various nationalities who violated the Residency and Labor laws and all of them are on Article 20 visa.
During initial investigation, those arrested admitted to purchasing visas and some of them are wanted by law for involvement in several cases.

Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) advised the people to be cautious when using highways because of the low visibility that due to weather instability with high winds whipping some areas.

resulting in the arrest of 56 persons who were reported to be utilizing the road to sell grocery items while majority of them hold Article 20 visa and others are on Article 18 visa.
‘Mafia’ rule broken:
An unidentified Member of Parliament is said to have severely criticized the new domestic labor law because under the new law 65 licenses, including the license of his mother, have been cancelled for violating the rules and regulations, reports Al-Shahed daily.
The source said most of the owners of these licenses had formed a mafia causing the price of recurring domestic worker soar high as much as KD 1,500.
These owners then reportedly encouraged the maids to run away after certain time and then sold them to other sponsors.
20 sheep stolen:
An unknown individual stole 20 sheep worth KD 50,000 from a Kuwaiti citizen’s livestock pen in Abdali area.
According to security sources, the owner of the farm, after discovering the theft of 20 sheep from his livestock pen, filed a theft case at the nearest police station.
He did not accuse anyone of the theft. Investigations have been launched to find the stolen sheep and arrest the thief.
Fires under probe:
The Ministry of Interior is closely following up the fire outbreaks in schools and is reportedly coordinating efforts with the ministry of education to hold meetings next week to discuss ways to prevent the recurrence of such incidents especially during graduation celebrations, reports Al-Anba daily quoting informed security sources.
The purpose of such meetings between both ministries is to raise awareness among students and teachers.
The source said senior officers from the Ministry of Interior will meet their Ministry of Education counterparts to find ways to prevent the entry of fireworks into the school buildings.
The Interior Ministry noted it is the responsibility of the school administration to ensure safety inside the school.
The ministry added the high rate of such incidents over the past few days call for unity among senior officials in the Ministry of Education.
Man in car boot:
Officers at the Salmi border post recently foiled the attempt of a GCC citizen to help a Syrian leave the country illegally, reports Al-Rai daily.
According to security sources, the suspect took advantage that the border crossing point into Saudi Arabia was crowded and hid the Syrian in the trunk of the car.
Both men have been referred to the concerned authorities.
