Kuwaiti citizen acquitted of boy’s abduction, rape

Two officers jailed

KUWAIT CITY, April 15: The Criminal Circuit of the Court of First Instance acquitted a Kuwaiti citizen who was accused of kidnapping and raping a minor boy.

According to the complaint lodged by the victim’s father, his son and the suspect had met on social media and they then used to go out together. However, the suspect was not part of his son’s friends circle. His son later informed him that he was raped by the suspect who then threatened to post his personal pictures on social media.

The Public Prosecution charged the citizen of kidnapping a minor, raping him and using a mobile phone for illegal purposes such as taking pictures of the victim forcefully, and then blackmailing him.

The defense counsel Lawyer Abdulwahab Bin Salama stressed that the statements of the plaintiff’s father are contradicting, insisting on the lack of clear evidence to prove the allegations leveled against his client. He indicated that his client has been denying the allegations from the beginning.

The Misdemeanor Court sentenced a Captain and a Corporal assigned in the Ministry of Interior to one month in prison with hard labor for insulting and abusing a female investigator in the ministry.

According to the case file, the two officers lodged a complaint against a female investigator claiming the latter insulted them when she used language of threat and abuse while they were carrying out official duty. They accused the woman of trying to prevent them from accomplishing the assignment due to her unruly action. They also accused another officer of encouraging the investigator to engage in indecent and immoral actions. The Captain is said to have used foul language against the investigator as he insulted and abused the woman publicly.

Lawyer for the investigator, Attorney Zaid Al-Khabbaz, argued that his client is innocent as the claim that she insulted the officers and prevented them from carrying out an official assignment is false. He explained his client only informed the officers that she is an investigator. In response, the Captain insulted her client ordering her to shut up and warned that she could be detained for being rude.

Top-level graft:

Three bank officials – two Chinese nationals and a Kuwaiti citizen — were arrested for facilitating transfer of funds from the bank accounts of a company in favor of one of its managing partners in Kuwait who is legally not authorized to do that.

According to a press release issued by Ministry of Interior, the first suspect, a Chinese national, is the general manager of a foreign bank in Kuwait. The other Chinese suspect is the commercial manager of the bank. The Kuwaiti suspect is the Director of Administration and Human Resources in the bank.

Officers from the Criminal Investigations Department arrested these suspects after receiving a complaint against them by Comoros Gulf Trading and Contracting Company.

The trio is also accused of refusing to execute bank orders presented by the company representative and denied him access to the company accounts. They also disclosed details of the accounts to some third parties, which represents a breach of banking confidentiality.

The amount of money that was illegally withdrawn from the company’s bank accounts exceeded KD 10 million. It was withdrawn and transferred after the managing partner, who only owns 5 percent of the company shares, gave them assurances and bribes.

The suspects have been released on bail but they are banned from leaving the country in preparation for the referral of the case to the concerned court.
