Panel backtracks on okaying proposal on naming of street
Report faults several MPW directors over flooding
KUWAIT CITY, April 17: Parliament’s Public Facilities Committee has backtracked from its decision to approve the proposal presented by MP Khaled Al-Shatti to name one of the streets in Jabriya area after the late Sayed Mohammed Baqer Al-Mahri, reports Al-Nahar daily.
This backtrack was the result of the pressure and attacks through social media on the head of the committee Abdullah Fahad and Rapporteur of the committee Majed Al-Mutairi for the committee’s approval of that proposal.
Al-Mutairi had forwarded a letter to the National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim, requesting the withdrawal of the proposal in accordance with Article 59 of the internal rules.
The Speaker signed it and referred it to the secretariat to take necessary action.
Meanwhile, MP Al-Mutairi presented a proposal for naming one of the streets in Khaitan area after the late Faisal Saoud Al-Duwaish.
He explained that his request comes in line with the importance of commemorating faithful national symbols who sacrificed their lives for serving the country in all fields, adding that they are role models and examples to be followed by the coming generations.
Meanwhile, initial report of the investigation committee blames several directors of the Ministry of Public Works for the flooding at Manqaf tunnel few weeks ago, reports Al-Shahed daily.
The daily quoting sources said the request for extension of the tenure of the committee and the slow pace of its investigation give the impression of ‘sweeping the issue under the carpet with the aim of protecting some senior ministry officials’.
They noted the contractor had said the drainage system was functioning well during rainfall but officials responsible for the station neglected it.
They stressed the need for the committee to wrap up investigation in transparency and stop protecting the officials involved in the case.
