KUWAIT CITY, April 20: MP Riyadh Al-Adsani has voiced objection to any attempt to cancel the interpellation motion against HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, stressing that the interpellation is hundred percent constitutional and it should be discussed in an open session.

Al-Adsani along with MP Shuaib Al-Muwaizri had earlier submitted the motion to the Secretariat General of the Parliament in a bid to grill the premier about the general policy of the State.

He pointed out the government should practice self-censorship; and as MPs, they have to hold accountable the prime minister for any failure related to the general State policy citing the intention to issue bonds. He wondered what could be government’s policy in terms of the money they will get from issuing bonds. He also accused the government of overlooking the deterioration of public policy until the State resorted to borrowing and issuing bonds.

He went on to argue that increasing the prices of goods and services will only complicate the problem instead of solving it, asserting the pockets of citizens should not be targeted just to address the budget deficit. He emphasized as well the need to modify the investment strategy of Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA).

He added, “If we give the prime minister a chance, corruption will increase. We are cooperating in serving public interests and our duty is to correct the government every time it fails.”

Meanwhile, MP Khalil Al-Saleh criticized the recent appointment of prosecutors, alleging that it was marred by discrimination as many qualified and competent citizens were disregarded. He lamented, “It is inconceivable that graduates of distinguished academic institutions were not appointed to the Public Prosecution. This caused frustration among competent national workforce while it is against the principles of justice and equality stipulated in the Constitution.”

He forwarded questions to Minister of Justice and State Minister for National Assembly Affairs Faleh Al-Azeb to know the conditions and requirements for those applying for the prosecutor post.

He also requested for details like the number of applicants in 2016 and 2017, names of those appointed and those who were rejected, their academic qualifications, names of universities where they graduated and their ages.

In another development, MP Khalil Aboul Abdullah presented a bill on the establishment of a stock company to engage in social insurance activity with the government owning 51 percent of the shares and the rest will be open for subscription for companies listed in the stock market.

The company will insure citizens against old age, disability, illness, death and end of service in order to guarantee that they continue to have a source of income monthly and live a decent life.
