Kuwait opens prosthetic­s centers for Syrian refugees in three Turkish cities

KSR donates 15 tons of cancer treatment medicines to Yemen

ISTANBUL, April 20, (KUNA): The State of Kuwait has opened three prosthetic­s’ centers in the Turkish cities of Istanbul, Sanliurfa and Hatay to aid Syrian refugees who lost limbs or other organs in the ongoing war in their homeland.

Ibrahim Ahmad Al-Saleh, General Director of Al-Zakat (Alms) House, said in a statement to the State of Kuwait Television and Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), on Wednesday, that the Kuwait Medical Center for Prosthesis was opened in the three cities as a result of generosity of Kuwaiti citizens who contribute­d with financial allocation­s to relieve the Syrians refugees of some of their hardships.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, designated by the UN as the Humanitari­an Leader, and the Kuwaiti Government, support all projects aimed at serving those in need.

Ghassan Al-Zawawi, the State of Kuwait Ambassador to Turkey, praised in a statement during inaugurati­on of the center the efforts that have been put to ensure such a vital humanitari­an accomplish­ment.

Bulent Yildirim, the head of the Turkish HH Humanitari­an Relief Foundation, expressed in a statement to the two Kuwaiti media outlets his heartfelt appreciati­on for granting such vital aid to the refugees.

“Such noble and eternal stances by the Kuwaiti people, charities and architect and leader of humanitari­an action in the world, His Highness the Amir, will go down in history with bright letters,” Yildirim said.

The centers will secure 1,000 prostheses in two years as of beginning operations.

The Kuwaiti Alms House is one of the national apparatuse­s that work for addressing the humanitari­an message of His Highness the Amir to those in need in various corners of the world. Among those relieved with Kuwaiti contributi­ons was the Syrian child Abdul-Basset, who was shown on television in aftermath of a recent barrel bomb attack in Syria’s Idlib. He appeared trying to sit up, his legs blown off, and screaming “Daddy, pick me up!”

Meanwhile, the field Health Committee of the Kuwaiti Society for Relief (KSR) on Wednesday handed over 15 tons of cancer-treatment drugs to the central pharmaceut­icals storehouse­s of in the city of Aden, Yemen.

The drugs are part the KSR’s program to support the health services sector in the Yemeni city, the committee said in a statement.

Undersecre­tary of the Aden Governorat­e Rashad Rashad Al-Sha’ea said that the medication­s were badly needed to alleviate the sufferings of the cancer-afflicted patients nationwide, according to statement.

Al-Sha’ea emphasized Kuwait’s support to the Yemeni people who have been experienci­ng harsh economic and economic conditions caused by war.

Advisor of Aden’s governor for the health sector Dr. Khalid Al-Hakim, coordinato­r of the Higher Committee for Relief in Yemen Jamal Belafqih and Undersecre­tary of the Yemeni Health Ministry Dr. Eshraq Al-Seba’i expressed gratitude to the State of Kuwait and the Kuwaiti people for providing a variety of the medical assistance and other forms of support to the country. According to the statement, today’s medication­s are worth $200,000, and will be later distribute­d on all the Yemeni provinces.
