DUBAI, May 10: Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (EMPOWER), the world’s largest district cooling services provider has announced savings of 280 million gallons of fresh water in 2016, enough to fill 510 – Olympic swimming pools.

Empower uses advanced Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems, along with the TSE technology, at its plants. The TSE technology of Empower was awarded first IDEA Innovation Award in 2013, as first of its kind globally.

“In 2016, Empower has managed to use recycled water for district cooling solutions to reduce waste and increase the company’s efficiency. In addition, the company usestreated water for preserving fresh water.

Empower also adopts several advanced systems to use waste water which is further treated to produce chilled water several times. Empower deploys a network of insulated pipes to transfer chilled water from its plants to the buildings where water returns to the plants to be rechilled,” said Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.

“As directed by our wise leadership, water savings is at the heart of our operations. Through advanced use of reverse osmosis technology, we at Empower, deploy this technology to re-use treated water repeatedly, which saves millions of gallons of fresh water. Empower uses the treated water in its tanks at several sites and plants contributing to major water savings,” added Shafar.

Committed

“As a leader in the district cooling industry, we remain committed to our robust responsibility to adopt policies and strategies defined by the government to conserve water wealth.Empower invests continuously in areas related to the modernisation and development of the company’s capabilities, enhancing its ability to achieve water savings in parallel with savings in energy, natural resources and electricity. These investments not only reflect positively on the company’s economic, environmental and societal perspective, but also help us contribute and support the country’s future strategies in energy, water and environment areas, including the transition to a sustainable green economy,” added Shafar.

The reverse osmosis system used by Empower is one of the most advanced systems in the industry. While the technology is an effective method to generate water savings, it also offersenergy efficiency required to operate the systems.

“During the current year and in the coming years, Empower continues to develop all its systems to support higher operating efficiencies and achieve greater savings forwater, energy and electricity. With our advanced capabilities, we are confident that we will contribute significantly to environmental conservation,” concluded Shafar.

Empower currently operates more than 1.250 Million RT, providing environmentally responsible district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments such as Jumeirah Group, Business Bay, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Ibn Battuta Mall, Discovery Gardens, Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai World trade Centre Residences, Dubai Design District, among others.
