Fire injures 4
A huge fire engulfed a petrochemical materials factory in Al-Rai, Shuwaikh Industrial Area on Wednesday morning, resulting in injuries and burns to the security guard of the factory and three of the firefighters who participated in the operation of extinguishing the fire.
In a press statement issued by Kuwait Fire Service Directorate (KFSD), the Public Relations and Media Department explained that the Control Room of KFSD, after receiving information at 8:30 am about a factory of 2,000 square meters on fire, dispatched firefighters from seven fire stations — Shuwaikh Industrial Area, Kuwait City, Mubarak Al-Kabeer, Ardiya, South Salmiya, Operations and Reinforcement — for dealing with the situation.
When the first batch of firefighters arrived at the scene, they realized the place was divided into two parts — one served as a petrochemical materials factory while the other was a store where products were temporary placed until they were transported out.
Within about five minutes, the firefighters began the fire extinguishing operation, working hard to ensure the blaze did not affect nearby structures. They were still inspecting the location when this report was filed.
The injured security guard and one of the three injured
firefighters were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The factory incurred huge losses that could not be valued immediately, as investigations were still ongoing to ascertain the extent of losses and to determine the cause of the fire. However, the officers counted at least 27 vehicles that were burnt completely due to the incident.
Senior officials present at the scene included the Acting Director General of KFSD Major General Eng Khalid Al-Tarkit, and Deputy Director General for Firefighting Affairs Major General Jamal Al-Bulayhes. (KUNA)
