KUWAIT CITY, May 24: The Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) ensures that water coming from power stations is pollution-free by strictly complying with the Environment Public Authority (EPA) regulations, reports Al-Anba daily quoting Minister Essam Al-Marzouq.

Commenting on a video clip about unknown liquid substances that went viral on various social media platforms, Al-Marzouq affirmed these substances are not polluted. He asserted that water taken from Kuwait Bay to the power stations is mixed with sand so bubbles appear when it flows back to the bay as seen in the video clip.

He said EPA takes samples regularly to ensure the water flowing out of power stations is not polluted, adding the authority’s inspectors are permitted to come any time.

Issue

In a related development, sources from EPA confirmed that the relevant teams are closely following up the issue and they have visited all outlets at the bay. Sources disclosed the teams took samples from each outlet in Shuwaikh Power Station for testing. Sources said the test results will be used as basis for legal action according to Environment Protection Law No. 42/2014. They hope all institutions comply with the law in order to protect the public and to avoid legal consequences.

Meanwhile, Acting Undersecretary of the State Ministry for Services Butheina Al-Subai’e announced the suspension of automated disconnection system of telephone lines in the month of June, reports Al-Rai daily.

Al-Subai’e explained in a press statement that the planned automatic disconnection of telephone lines will be suspended in June due to the holy month of Ramadan based on instructions from the State Minister for Housing Affairs and State Minister for Services Yasser Abul.

She said the ministry took this initiative to participate with citizens and residents in celebrating the holy month and Eid Al-Fitr.

Al-Subai’e affirmed that the ministry, since several years, has been implementing the automated disconnection process through transmission of warning messages followed by disconnection for cases of non-payment of dues. This operation proved to be effective in urging subscribers to pay the dues they owed the ministry.
