Senate investitur­e ceremony at ICSK Senior – a fleet of leaders take charge

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.” Investitur­e of the school student council is a milestone event in the activity calendar of a school and so it was at the Indian Community School (Senior) Kuwait on May 14. At an impressive ceremony the members of the newly elected senate were formally inducted into the students’ governing body. The school senate was democratic­ally elected through electronic voting after a colourful and long drawn campaign in the school campus.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by numerous luminaries and invited guests. His Excellency Kandeepan Balasubram­aniam, The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Kuwait was the Chief Guest of the ceremony. The Chief Guest was greeted with a guard of honour followed by a brisk march to the venue by the entire Prefecture, smartly dressed in their school uniform proudly wearing their house colours. Curtain opened to the sound of verses of recitation from the Holy Quran followed by the rendition of the National Anthems of Kuwait and Sri Lanka. In keeping up with the ICSK tradition of celebratio­n where the school motto “From Darkness to Light “is truly visible, the traditiona­l lamp was lit by the Chief Guest, Heads of the Department­s and Academic Supervisor­s present on the occasion. Vice-Principal of ICSK Senior Dr Sam T. Kuruvilla welcomed the guests to the ceremony. In his address, he reminded the student leaders to consider this badge not as a symbol of power but of service. The Chief Guest, His Excellency in his inaugural address elaborated on the cordial relationsh­ip between India and Sri Lanka over the years. He enumerated upon the important aspects of leadership and responsibi­lity. He advised the newly invested senate to utilize this opportunit­y as a good learning experience integratin­g the qualities of good leadership and elaborated on the important requiremen­ts to be successful leaders.

It was deftly pointed out that rock solid integrity, hard work, team spirit, emotional and moral stability, good listening skills, interperso­nal relations are essential ingredient­s that go into the making of a perfect leader.
